About

Rachel Weil is a programmer, artist, hacker, writer, and graduate student whose research centers on the study of girlhood via remixed and reimagined video games and electronic toys of the 20th century. Her work examines and challenges mainstream discourse about the legitimacy of “girly games” within game studies, game development, and gamer culture. In 2012, Weil founded FEMICOM, a physical and online museum of retro video games and electronic toys that feature feminine design elements. Weil also creates ultra-feminine, glitchable 8-bit programs for the Nintendo Entertainment System under the alias Party Time! Hexcellent!
